David John RichardLEARIt is with a great deal of sadness that I am writing this tribute for my father, David Lear. A true blue Nottingham boy, a Forest fan from birth to death, he lived the first forty two years of his life in the city, his childhood was spent on Waterloo Promenade and then to Sandon Street, attending Margaret Glen Bott Grammar School until 1963. He worked for Wheatcroft's, Raleigh, the Army, Armaguard, Crown Paints and Guy Birkins Lace before he finally joined the post office in 1978 and stayed there for ten years, working on the railway station. Ill health made him retire from there, but he was only in his forties and he wanted to continue working. He became a publican at The Elm Tree, Beech Avenue in 1988 and then was offered a job in Lincolnshire. This county became his home for the next thirty five years, but Nottingham was always his heart. For those of you who knew him, you will know how hard it was to lose him, but you will remember his sarcasm, his humour and his hard work and hopefully have a smile on your face when you do. His wish was to have people smile when they thought of him, and his choice of music for his funeral reflected this, asking for Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, by Monty Python. He will be missed by his daughter Karen, his son Allen, daughter-in-law Bella and grandson Aaron.
